Chapter 5: From Head to Toe - Part 3

The Art of Eyebrow Tweezing

First choose a good pair of eyebrow tweezers.  I love the one from Tweezerman with its very sharp end which is able to pluck out fine hairs, even the finer facial hairs.  小S and I even use it to pluck our underarm and female moustache hairs!  Just grip tightly onto the root and pull the hair out.  For those who are afraid of pain, just bear with it for the first few times and there will be no pain after that!  小S also likes using an eyebrow shaver to trim her brows – this is how she gets such neat and shapely brows.  However shaving causes coarse re-growth as well as resulting in pores turning a bit darkish in color.  That’s why I still recommend tweezing only!

Beautiful Ears

Read this and believe it – our ears need skincare too!  I love observing other people’s ears and tell whether they are clean, pretty and meet my criteria only then will I credit her as a beauty!

While writing this book, 小S admitted that she has no idea that ears need to be cleaned with a cotton bud!  Some people use tissue paper and some wipe their ears with the face towel after washing their faces.  However using these cannot clean the deep curves of the ear properly, so use a cotton bud!  As for ear digger, there is one with a spiral head, imported from Japan.  After inserting it into the ear, turn it around and it pulls out the ear wax easily.  You can buy it at Tokyo Hands in Taiwan.

While removing makeup, remember to clean the ear edges with makeup remover and wash off with water after that.  As for my biggest concern which is sun protection, after applying sun block onto your face, use the remaining lotion to swipe over your ears.

For those with ear piercings, be careful of how you put on earrings.  Many people get ear infections from improper wear.  Before putting them on, sterilize the earring pins with antiseptic lotion and then smear a bit of Mentholatum ointment (面速力 ).  You won’t suffer from infections then!

When you get small cuts or scratches on your body, please apply Mentholatum ointment on the wound immediately.  It is a convenient skincare and medicated item that all females should carry in their bags.  小S and I also like to apply it on our lips to keep them protected and moist.

Pretty Hands and Feet

Many girls shower attention on their faces and figures but not their hands and feet.  They consider the task of caring for them the least important and do it only when they’re free, even to the extent of ignoring them totally.  If you are such a girl, you are not fit to be a beauty for true beauties are those who are particular about every little detail of their body!

Tip 1:  Wash hands with soap
Our hands often touch our face and to avoid spreading germs to the face, it is very important to wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap.

Tip 2:  Apply hand lotion
Let me recommend this again – Neutrogena Hand Cream (露得润护手霜).  This lotion is thick and needs some time for the skin to absorb after application.  I suggest you apply it on your feet first before your hands last.  I recommend another brand Jurlique Lavender hand cream, a brand adored by Hong Kong’s rich Tai Tais.  It gets absorbed easily into the skin.  Besides creams, there are moisturizing oils as well.  But these oils tend to make your hands even drier the more you apply it.  So think twice before buying oils.

Tip 3:  Wrap your hands and feet for better absorption
After massaging the Neutrogena Hand Cream into hands, wear cotton gloves immediately and go to sleep.  Wake up the next morning and you will be surprised to find how baby-smooth your hands have become!  Similarly, massage your feet with Neutrogena Hand Cream and wear a pair of clean cotton socks immediately after that.  You can wear them throughout the night or remove after 1 to 2 hours.

Tip 4:  Scrape off the thick skin
For those who often wear high heels or walk a lot, the skin on the heels of your feet can get thick and rough, with an outer layer of whitish colored skin.  The balls of the feet, big and small toes get calluses easily.  Soak them in warm water and use a foot scraper to shave off the thick skin.  Using a pumice stone is not a good idea because of its thick uneven shape and it may hurt your feet.  A flat oval-shaped foot board scraper works best.  The worst is the metal type as it scratches the feet easily.

Tip 5:  Don’t forget your elbows and knees
The elbows and knees get darkened easily hence need to be exfoliated.  After that, apply Neutrogena Hand Cream as normal.

If the back of your feet have scars left by scrapping the skin against new shoes or ill-fitting shoes, I recommend 080 scar removal cream (宁除乳膏) which can lighten up the scars effectively.

Beauty Queen’s Closing Dialogue

Artistes are always in the spotlight.  They have to be mindful of their image more than people in general.  Maintaining my looks is part of my job.  We are selling ourselves so have to look our best.  I admit that I’m a bit bizarre and ridiculous in some of my methods but that’s my philosophy which I follow strictly and I achieved positive results.  That’s how I could get the title of Beauty Queen!

After sharing my beauty tips with you all, I would now like to share the amount of time I spend on each skincare routine.

1. Apply face mask and body moisturizer (frequency: daily) – 40mins

I need to use face mask everyday and after shower, I apply body moisturizer immediately.  This is my basic routine.  If I feel lazy to use face mask at night, I will do it the next morning after waking up.  If I have a busy schedule in the day, I will do it at night.  If I am not filming and spending time at home, I will do 2 different face masks for day and night.  I have thin and dry skin which tans easily hence I value face masks that improve the health of my skin.  Besides that, the whitening and moisturizing types are also important.  As for cleansing mask, I use only once in a long while, as my skin is sensitive to the cleansing ingredients.

2.  Hands and feet care (frequency: once every 2 to 3 days) – at least 60mins

On stipulated days in each week, I will apply moisturizer on my hands and feet, wear cotton gloves and socks for better absorption.

3.  Exfoliate (frequency: once fortnightly) – 10mins

Although my skin is delicately thin, I prefer using scrub to exfoliate.  It gives me a sense of satisfaction, feeling my skin super clean after that.  Hence I can only subject myself to do it fortnightly.

4.  Hair wash (frequency: depends on situation) – 30mins

I don’t have oily scalp.  If I wash my hair daily, more hair will drop, hence I don’t find it necessary to wash everyday.   I am more concerned about hair maintenance.  If I have to wash my hair today, I will skip my hands and feet routine.

With careful planning of the above routines, I am able to achieve the most effective results!

                                That’s the End!

Hope you had enjoyed reading!
